The global pandemic covid-19 is hitting everybody hard. The contagious virus is defining a new normal to each of us. We need to take care and stay safe in this pandemic and be very precautious to not get ourselves and others infected. 

The government has imposed a Lockdown during the period of the pandemic requesting people to stay home and stay safe. Wear the mask and do not step out of the house if it is not very much required. We should all follow all the rules and regulations. 

Coming to the hair transplant, this procedure is time-consuming and requires patience and regular observation. The hair transplant procedure has many steps which may or may not complete in one day. Which may require more than one session. Slit making, graft extraction, graft preservation and implantation, all must be done with proper care and caution especially in the Covid-19 period.

During the lockdown period, many clinics had stopped their hair transplant procedures because of the safety of the patient and clinical staff.

But now they have started resuming the operations by properly following rules and regulations. Those precautions will also help to avoid transmission of COVID -19 from each other. Let’s see the precautions:

1. The doctors will examine the patients first before selecting them for the hair transplantation. They may enquire about any COVID-19 symptoms, history of any foreign travel, and travel to containment zones in the last 1-month period. Also, whether there is an account of any contact with the COVID positive patient. Good hygiene is maintained at the clinic to avoid the spread.

   2. The doctors will keep records of your body temperature, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, etc.

   3. You need to wear a surgical mask throughout the procedure.

    

Clinics are required to follow Staff protocols for hair transplant surgery during Covid-19:

1. Your hair transplant clinical staff must be screened for COVID – 19 symptoms.
2. The whole surgical team is required to wear full PPE gear throughout the procedure including surgical gown, N 95 mask with a triple-layer mask, surgical masks with face shield & double gloves.
3. All patients must wear masks at all times in and around the clinic during the check-ups and treatment 
4. All patients and staff members must follow social distancing while at the clinic.
5. All patients should come to the clinic according to their appointment dates so that the clinic is not overcrowded to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
6. Hand sanitation should be maintained at the clinic, patients are advised to wash their hands at all times with antibacterial soap or use a sanitizer.

7. The clinic and medical tools should be properly disinfected and disposed of if required before and after use.
