Long hair transplant is a technique of implanting hairs from the donor area such as the back and side of the scalp to the recipient area. In this procedure, the donor area is not shaved; that’s why it is also called a no-shave procedure. We shave off very thin strip of the donor area where the hair is going to be extracted. Long hair transplant procedure is just similar to other hair transplantation methods, the only difference is you don’t have to shave your head in order to perform the transplantation. It is preferably done in patients with very less graft requirement.

To perform the surgery, the hair follicles are extracted, one by one, from the donor area and implanted in the area that has no hair. Below is the procedure that we follow.

A hair transplant machine with a very thin hollow bur of under 1mm in diameter is used to extract the hair follicles. It will leave minimal to no scarring.
With the help of a surgical punch of 0.7mm – 0.8mm diameter, the hairs are extracted one by one. We use the FUE procedure here; which lasts for many hours. If more grafts are required to be implanted, then the procedure can take multiple days as well.
The next step is to implant the hair follicles into the marked area of your scalp. Local anaesthesia is used to numb the area. To make sure that the hairs are growing naturally with higher density, the recipient sites should be closely situated.
The follicular units are placed at the proper angle and direction to create a natural and refined hairline.
